First Fruits…

Galatians 5:22-23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Candor has been on hiatus. But I’m back with a blog I think we all can soak in and strive to live out. The fruits of the Spirit! Fruits are delicious and each one has a distinct ability to serve our bodies in a healthy way. While a banana has much potassium which is a muscular benefit, blueberries are an amazing antioxidant and can help lower blood pressure. They are both different yet advantageous for our physical bodies. The fruits of the Spirit are no different other than they are nourishing to our spirits and souls and thereby honoring to God and those around us. Think about it like this….If we have goodness without love, or if we display joy but are harsh lacking gentleness, then the fullness of what could be is nonexistent. But if faithfulness is part of our character with a strong dose of patience and self control, then we can be peaceful and loving to those around us. That is the goal, to demonstrate the fullness of what God desires for us.

If we love God the most, we can then love others so much better. Isn’t that true?! If we love like Him, lives will be changed. Love is enduring.

Happiness is based on circumstances but joy, joy is dependent on Jesus. Times can sometimes be challenging but with Him, joy can still overflow. Joy is contagious.

When we keep our peace in times of chaos, we can hear what the Spirit is saying. And it is then that He can lead us to his rest. Peace is comforting.

This is really an integral fruit, because it is also translated as forbearance which includes self control. We have a choice in how we respond to others as we wait. Let’s pray that He perfects us in this area. Patience is long suffering.

My favorite. We don’t have to agree with everyone to be kind. We can exemplify Jesus as we show care and concern for those even in the midst of having different views. Because then, we are a true witness. Kindness is necessary.

This is not a passive quality, but the intentional choosing of right over wrong. It is resisting all moral evil, and the choosing and following good. Goodness is decisive.

Steadfast, devoted, and true. There is truly nothing better than a faithful spouse or friend. And there is no greater friend than Jesus. He sticks closer than a brother and is forever faithful. Let us long to have this deep in our being. Faithfulness is truthful.

It is the quality of being kind and careful. It brings a warmth. It carries a calming demeanor from those who display it. It is speaking the truth in a manner that is caring. Gentleness is compassionate.

Tough one. Proverbs 25:28 says “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” Disciplining ourselves and setting boundaries is not always easy but so important. “The ultimate goal for practicing self-control is to choose Christ over the world.” Self control is protecting.

I think I may have singlehandedly broken many, if not all of these, with a simple drive to work. Sadly. But yes, very true. I can definitely confirm for certain that patience and self control have gone out the window, and I think a touch of kindness and gentleness as well, thereby losing all joy and peace. We’re human so there is a struggle. But the more we build ourselves up with the Word, the more we will reflect these important attributes. The fruit of the Spirit is brought out by the Holy Spirit. As we yield and grow in Christ, the fruit will then start to manifest. Our ultimate goal is is to look like Jesus! Some of us may find certain fruits more natural to our God given personalities and others not so much. While kindness, love and gentleness may reflect one’s innate nature, another person’s character may readily reflect joy and goodness with a good helping of self control. I think as we know what our individuality exudes more naturally, then it is key for us to pray for the other fruits to take hold. I encourage you to daily eat your apple and mangos but more importantly, I am spurring you on to digest the spiritual fruits. Study one a day and then pray for that to be perfected in you. When we attain the character that Jesus inspires, we can reach a dying, sinful world. So tomorrow morning, maybe just maybe, you can start with some kiwi and kindness! πŸ₯ πŸ€—

2 Peter 1:5-7

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

I Encourage you…Be fruitful!
