Thought taming….

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

I love this scripture so much because if practiced, it has such power to change lives!  Thinking on the right things brings hope, peace and joy.

It’s a funny thing, the mind!  We all know the phrase, it’s ‘mind over matter’.  There is a lot of truth to this.  Our thoughts can control so much of how we feel and live.  But our thinking does not have to hold us captive.  TruDat!  You can CHOOSE what to think and believe me, I am speaking to myself here.  Instead of thinking things that bring us down, we can focus on good and turn it right around!   If you are anything like me, there is a daily taming of thinking right!  Whether it is simply “I will not be offended today” or “I do not have to give in to everything my body is feeling” or “I am never alone, God is always with me”, I am purposing to choose good thoughts, because it affects every part of living.  I know, easier said than done, but IT IS POSSIBLE!  Joyce Meyer, one of my favorite speakers, says it perfectly, “Where the mind goes, the man follows.”  How true!  When your mind tries to fill you with lying thoughts, immediately counteract with, Absolutely Not!  Refuse to think or believe whatever negativity comes into your head.


You can promptly fill that beautiful mind with right thoughts.  My personal way to combat the negativity is to fill it with positivity of the Bible.  For me, God’s word is life and joy!  Your thoughts can make or break your joy.  When those creeping thoughts of ‘what ifs’ try to envelope us, we need to think, NO, not ‘what if’ but rather, ‘what is’!  And what is the truth?  I am a child of the most High!  He guides me, loves me, protects me, and has my back!  So, with the big things and even with the little things, wrangle your thoughts!  “What consumes your mind, controls your life”. When something comes that brings anxiety or some other ill-at-ease feeling, you can immediately turn that thinking around.  And not only can we think right, but we can speak it out loud.  “I refuse to think this” and I speak what God says in His word to combat it….out loud!  There is something about hearing ourselves and therefore the mind believes it! I know there are even times when thoughts will come pertaining to others and what I might think about a specific person or situation.  I have to say….NOPE , I choose to think right about that person because love believes the best about others.  Now, even if there is truth to those thoughts, that is irrelevant.  We are responsible for us…..not what others do, say or act.  The important part is how we respond.  And our thoughts are where it begins.

Today, I challenge you and ME to make up our minds and temper those thoughts. Choose JOY even when circumstances may not be favorable at that moment.  Because, yes, life is imperfect but how we approach it with our thinking, makes ALL of the difference!  Happy thoughts to you!

  1. Wow! This sure hit home. It is a daily struggle to keep right minded. You are right, our thoughts about a person or situation can set a different course for us, IF WE ALLOW IT! A Counselor at my school said, “if you are feeling down, wear pink!”. ” You can’t be unhappy if you wear pink!!”. This was just the other day. I love pink but don’t have a lot of pink clothing. My color is Blue!! So when I am feeling a bit down, I’ll wear blue and do as you suggest, “say it out loud”!!! Thank you for your inspiration 💜
